My creative practice is influenced by my coastal surroundings. I draw influence from finding, collecting, assembling and interpreting what is around me. My inspiration is broad and varied, sometimes hard to pinpoint exactly! I’d say I have a particular interest in vintage colour combinations, bold patterns and kitsch objects.
Arts and culture to me is a broad umbrella that fits in all the amazing interests and artistic endeavours of all creatives across diverse practises - visual arts, performance art, music and public art. It is what makes my mind spark and creates memorable and lasting impressions long after an exhibition, performance or festival ends. It brings diverse views, new ideas, creative talent and unique perspectives forward into the community and welcomes all people to be involved.
I was born in Frankston and have a deep connection to it. It’s vibrant and energetic, as well as having amazing beaches. There’s a bit of magic in seeing the water as you drive down Olivers Hill, it's something I never tire of! There is grit and an edge too, but that all adds to its charm.
Super hard to choose just one, I'm looking forward to seeing "Liz Walker: Let's Get Real", love that we have a similar interest in using plastic waste to make a statement and I can't wait to see how the immersive exhibition comes to life for the festival. Close second is "Joshua Searle: Oro Vivo (Living Gold)", I love his use of colour and I'm looking forward to seeing the animated story in action!
Beyond the sea - Bobby Darin. I like the song and lyrics, it's not really that relevant to the question though sorry! Guess I must have been feeling romantic today LOL!
